Feed me!

With this year's garden in the last week of summer, some of my tomato plants have bloomed and popped out little green globes among the masses of leaves (despite the leaf-munching bunnies!)... none of the fruit has turned red yet... All I need is 1 red tomato from my garden, and my tomato plant-planting efforts will be a success! Of course, 2 or 3 (or more!) crimson globes would be awesome, but just 1 would be... Oh who am I kidding? Feed me, tomato plants, feed me! You're my favorite fruit...

The Spore-Monger Makes Its Yearly Appearance

Again, seemingly overnight, the heat and humidity of late summer have combined to pop out the giant fungus in my front yard. My forest critter-hunting neighbor has again requested to partake of it (he gifted me with asparaferns a few years ago). And I've told him it's free for the partaking. But I know he's bluffing... most of my neighbors know better than to eat anything that grew out of this ground. Even I lined my in-ground garden with plastic sheeting.

Bees under the floorboards...

Seems bees built their hive underneath my floorboards... When I crouch and put my ear to the floor, I hear their faint buzzing, and when I step from the mudroom to the deck, I see this... I do hope they'll move on this fall. They get riled up when I step outside to fire up the grill, but I've not been stung. The smoke from my veggie kabobs calms them...

Tomatoes-to-be...

After months of watering, fertilizing, weeding, fencing, and doting, I have the promise of harvesting the world's perfect food -- the glorious tomato! The blooms are still buds yet, but I've several tomato plants that of full and bushy with verdant leaves. When the glorious globes are red and ripe, I will pair them with the basil growing in my garden. If you haven't had garden-grown tomato-basil sandwiches, you must! They're so good it's bizarre...
